As for pictures advancing the story, I love the idea. But I bought the wonderful book, "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" for my 10 year old son and he hated it. He just wanted words. He didn't even finish the book. I thought it said something interesting about his learning style. I did recommend it to several parents whose kids are more visual. Harsh language in kids’ books is fine with me if it’s appropriate to the character and story.
