There are certain words that just sound ridiculous. When I hear them I can’t help but giggle. For instance, “flabbergasted”. I’m sorry, but that sounds like a bodily function, and not a pleasant one (um, is there such thing as a pleasant bodily function…but I digress).
Weimaraner is another one–cute dog, stupid name! Seems to me it’s a theme with dogs. Shih Tzu anyone? That name is just giving small dog breed haters lots of ammo!
Discombobulated is another one. But as a children’s poet I love funny words. A well placed, ridiculous sounding word can add energy to a poem, and it can also expand a child’s vocabulary while making them laugh. Can’t ask for more than that?
What words make you giggle just to hear them?
K….

I always get a chuckle when I hear Blue Footed Booby. My husband thinks it’s funny that I say “bazillion” all the time and that I can’t pronounce the word “lozenge”…it comes out more like “logenze” when I say it.
Phenomena – because that sesame street song the monsters sing- manamana boo boo badobah, manamana boo bodahboo – comes immediately into my head. I can’t pronance it any way that it does not happen.
sorry about the spelling error above…
I think the strangest word in the entire English language is album.
This could be because I was in college before I learned that the word was album, and not alblum.
At least I figured that out before completing my degree – a BA in ENGLISH!
