If you missed my latest newsletter you may not realize that artist Jane Chapman (who illustrated the Bear books) and I are teaming up for a new series. I would like to introduce you to the new, adorable character, Little Pip the penguin, who will make her debut appearance in the book Where Is Home, Little Pip? (Margaret K. McElderry Books, Sept. 08)
First of all, I want to clarify that Little Pip is a baby Adélie penguin, not an Emperor as I erroneously suggested previously on this blog. Duh! I knew this, and I can’t explain my complete brain cell failure. I’m actually pleased, because these days the Emperors are getting all the press. Here’s the intro paragraph from the book and some sneak peak art.
Pip was hatched in a nest made of pebbles on the cold Antarctic shore. She was as fluffy as new-fallen snow and small even for a baby penguin.
I hope you enjoy this new series. I adore Pip. She’s a plucky and precious little penguin! Stay tuned–in two days I’m posting a sneak peak of the next in the Bear series (Bear Feels Scared) and it’s some of the best bear art yet! Totally new and amazing. Jane Chapman has outdone herself yet again!
